University of Jyväskylä, Finnish retail and service company S Group and the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra have published an open database and a guide (only in Finnish) to help companies calculate and reduce their biodiversity footprint. The new calculation model, which is based on data from the S group, helps identify the main drivers of impacts and guide measures to safeguard biodiversity. Climate change and biodiversity loss already affect the availability of food, and calculations of the biodiversity footprint may contribute to risk management in the future.

The database is continuously developed, and its precision enhanced, for example, in terms of more accurate product-specific biodiversity footprints.
