Scope & contribution: A global synthesis of life‑cycle biodiversity assessment (LCA) in crop production, distilling recent methodological advances and empirical applications. 

Evidence gaps: It shows a strong geographic bias (Europe over‑represented), underexamined regions (Africa/Asia), and limited coverage of specialty crops and upstream supply‑chain impacts. 

Model appraisal: Through a structured review of LCA methods, the authors identify LC‑Impact and ReCiPe as the most suitable current models for agricultural biodiversity footprints.

Framework & priorities: The paper proposes a dedicated LCA biodiversity framework for agriculture and calls for better data in high‑risk regions, broader indicators than species richness, and model validation with field data.
